How Saffiome is made
Made here, for our own kids first.
Saffiome is developed and made on the Gold Coast with our manufacturing and research partner, from a brief Regan wrote for her own two girls: one sachet to start the day, one to end it, studied ingredients carried in honey, no pills, no chewing, no mixing.
Developed and made on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
Why we did it the slow way
Not an off-the-shelf blend.
There are faster ways to launch a kids' supplement. Take a stock formula, change the flavour, put it in a nice pouch.
We didn't want that. We started from affron, the saffron extract with eleven published placebo-controlled trials, at the amount the trials used, then added saffron in a second, fermented form, a multi-strain probiotic, vitamin C from acerola, and tart cherry, chamomile and lemon balm for the evening. Honey carries all of it.
It costs more to do it this way. For our own kids, it was worth it.
Saffron, two ways
From the crocus to the sachet.
affron is a standardised extract of saffron stigma, made in Spain and standardised to more than 3.5% Lepticrosalides. It is the extract used in eleven published placebo-controlled trials, and two sachets a day give 28 mg, the daily amount the trials used.
Beside it, whole saffron is fermented by a live culture here on the Gold Coast. Five per cent of what comes out is saffron; the rest is the postbiotic, the cells and metabolites the fermentation made.
The honey
Queensland honey, with certified Manuka.
Every sachet starts with honey from a local, family-owned, HACCP-certified Queensland honey house with more than 30 years behind it: 80% Australian honey and 20% Australian Manuka from Leptospermum nectar.
The Manuka is certified MGO 250+ on every batch. MGO is methylglyoxal, measured in milligrams per kilogram, and each batch is independently tested. The grade describes the Manuka, not the whole sachet.
Honey is why there is nothing to chew or mix, and why it tastes the same every day. No preservatives, no additives, no dyes, no artificial flavours.
From brief to sachet
How a sachet gets made.
From Regan's brief to the sachet in your hand.
-
The brief
One sachet to start the day and one to end it, for kids and teens 6 to 17 first, then adults. Studied ingredients, honey to carry them, no pills, no chewing, no mixing.
-
The formula
Developed with our manufacturing and research partner on the Gold Coast: every ingredient chosen, and every amount set, one at a time.
-
Saffron, fermented
Whole saffron is fermented by a live culture on the Gold Coast, so each sachet carries saffron two ways.
-
Blended into honey
Each formula is blended into the honey base: 80% Australian honey and 20% Australian Manuka, certified MGO 250+.
-
Filled and sealed
Filled into single 8 g stick sachets on the Gold Coast, the same size for kids, teens and adults.
Packed on the Gold Coast
Thirty sachets, one pouch, about a month.
Thirty 8 g stick sachets go into each stand-up pouch, kids' and adults' alike. A bundle is two pouches, one for the morning and one for the evening, dispatched from the Gold Coast, and every bundle ships free Australia-wide.
